the time we had to call 911

September 30, 2009

A silly story for this Wednesday:

Last night Chels reminded me of the time bf and I had to call 911.

One evening all the power went out on us.

It was pretty dark.

And then all of a sudden we see this bright blue light coming through the bathroom window.

It was a fire! An electric fire to be precise… A power line was down and had caught fire!

bf: “yeah something’s deffintly on fire…”

me: “what?? omg omg call 911”

<can you tell he’s the calm one?>

So bf dialed and had a nice long chat with the operator–they ask so many questions! What’s your address, what’s your phone number, what kind do you see?? I suppose they don’t want to waste any firefighters time…

Then we decided it was best to eat all the ice cream in the freezer so as not to let it go bad.

A few hours and two tummy aches later the power was restored! We awoke to lots of lights and beeping.

Luckily no one was hurt and since it had rained that day it didn’t cause any real damage.

if i was an animal…

bf and I were talking about what animals we’d be. I think I’d be a giraffe & he’s definitely an owl. How awesome are these guys?

I am so so so excited! One of my fave bands is coming to DC November 6. Thao with the Get Down Stay Down! Oh hooray hooray!

Check out this awesome video:

Andddd…a new CD (Know Better Learn Faster) to be released Oct. 13!

ACL is this week. It’s strange that in the four years that I lived in Austin I never had a real desire to go, but now that I’m here in DC I really wish I could go!

This is what my schedule would look like:

Friday Oct 2.

Medeski, Martin & Wood 2:30-3:30

Andrew Bird 7:30-8:30

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s 8:30-9:45

Saturday Oct. 3

Citizen Cope 4:00-5:00

Bon Iver 5:00-6:00

The Decemberists 7:00-8:00

Oh I wish I was in Austin for this!

I saw this lovely little post from Daydream Lily and decided to participate:

Reading… In Defense of Globalization, The Chastening, and America the Unusual…all fun books for class. Eventually I’ll start reading for fun again.

Listening… Metric & Catherine Feeny

Cooking…. More enchiladas because I miss my Texas oh so much

Wanting… The crisp autumn weather to come back & colorful tights to go with it

Making… A dining room set (more like re-finishing really)… photos soon, one more coat of paint hooray!

Loving… So many things! Fall clothes, good TV is back (How I Met Your Mother, GG, Castle!), the fact that I may possibly (finger crossed) study abroad again (this time to India, Indonesia, and Singapore), phone calls from some very special people down south, and of course my darling bf.

my life as a grad student

Reading, reading, and more reading. Oh and of course the handful of esoteric discussions during class…

Check out these pretty books though:

And this is how I’m feeling today:

Just a bit overwhelmed.

Today I can’t get enough of this lovely movie:

I can’t wait for it to open!

And of course the lovely Audrey Tautou.

Especially in this amazing commercial for Chanel No.5:

Ohh what an unproductive weekend this was. I had plans. Big plans. I was going to do all my reading for class, and well it seems that the best mexican food in DC, Lauriol Plaza, distracted me. Oh, it was truly up to Texas standards, I was in heaven. Saturday we met one of bf’s good friends there and had maragritas and chips & salsa. The one  margarita I had made me pretty much useless the rest of the day…

We did get one thing done:

Next up refinishing our quirky little dining room table.

Tonight it’s all about watching the Emmy’s, eating (double stufff) Oreos, and catching up on readings.
